    Hydraulic Sluicing, by Robert Kaufman

Image

Title
Hydraulic Sluicing
Description

Hydraulic sluicing used high-pressure water directed through water cannons, or monitors, to break down banks of gold-bearing earth. Water was brought along water races, often for many miles, to a point high above the workings. From there, it was piped down to the monitors, the amount of vertical fall providing the water pressure.
