This photograph shows the remains of the mine manager's house at Englishmen's Reef, next to the mine's mullock heap. The normal construction for housing on the gold fields was local stone and mud and mortar. This hut could be 150 years old, and the fact that it is still standing is testimony both to the skill of its builders and the quality of the bulding construction. This mine operated in the early 1860s.
