Ground Sluicing, Nuggetty Gully, Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park

Image

Title
Ground Sluicing, Nuggetty Gully, Castlemaine Diggings National Heritage Park
Description

When water was delivered to the Castlemaine gold fields by channels called water races, many of the gullies were extensively ground-sluiced. Miners obtained the gold by using water to wash away the dirt. The loose stones were stacked in heaps on the sides of the channels. This would once have been a stark landscape but now is revegetating itself.
