Omeo, VIC

Alternative Names
  • Livingstone Creek

Gold was discovered at Livingstone Creek, in 1851, in an area that was too remote to attract a significant rush. A mining camp set up on the site grew to become the town of Omeo in 1856. Chinese miners were a large proportion of the Omeo district's alluvial mining population from the early 1860s until late in that century.
