Barossa, SA

While better known for its winemaking exploits, the Barossa Valley region of South Australia experienced a small gold rush in 1868. The key types of mining were alluvial and quartz. Like all gold rushes in South Australia it was short lived and largely unsuccessful in terms of gold won from the ground. Nonetheless the Barossa gold rush provides an interesting footnote to the story of gold seeking in Australia.
